ARP L-19 Head Studs for 1989-1998 Dodge Cummins 12v. Bottom Tap Required. No Milling of Rocker Arms.
12mm Head Stud Kit for 1989-1998 Dodge Cummins. Recommended for applications over 80PSI on a single turbocharger or small set of compound turbos. If you plan on making more than 1, 000HP, run nitrous or have large compound turbos consider going to the stronger Custom Aged 625 ARP studs 247-4205.
The L-19 Studs are also known as H11 Studs. This is a premium steel that is processed to deliver superior strength and fatigue properties. L-19 is a very high strength material compared to 8470 or ARP2000 and is capable of delivering a clamp load as 260,000 psi. It is primarily used in short track and drag racing applications where inertia loads exceed the clamping capability of ARP2000. Like most high strength, quench and temper steels - L-19 requires special care during manufacturing to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. This material is easily contaminated and subject to stress corrosion. It must be kept well oiled and not exposed to moisture.
Bonus: Milling of Rocker Arms is not required. The updated designs allows there to be enough clearance on the nut to use the washer and have clearance to install the valve cover withour clearance issues. about 1 in 10 engines will have valve covers that will need to have some of the webbing on the valve cover to be ground for clearance).
Note: The bolts in the Cummins blocks are not tapped to the bottom. These studs have been designed with more threads to reduce stress on both the threads and the block. A 12mm x 1.75 BOTTOM TAP IS REQUIRED. Although some have had success tapping the block with the head on it is NOT RECOMMENDED. The Head should come off before the block is bottom tapped.
